Al-Qasidah al-Ta'iyyah: A Poem on Neediness Before Allah

Course Description

Al-Qaṣīdah al-Tāʾiyyah by Shaykh al-Islām Ibn Taymiyyah is a profound poetic text addressing the core spiritual reality of human dependence upon the Creator. Through this concise yet powerful poem, students explore the themes of tazkiyat al-nafs, focusing on humbling the heart and recognising that true power, protection, and provision belong to Allah alone.

The curriculum examines the text line by line, unpacking its theological depth and showing how acknowledging one's utter poverty before Allah brings peace, sincerity, and correct worship.

Taught by Ustadh Zoheir Hajji, the course guides students through the nuances of the poem with clarity, drawing upon classical methodology to connect the verses to sound belief and spiritual refinement.

Students will learn:

• An overview of the life and scholarly contributions of Shaykh al-Islām Ibn Taymiyyah

• The spiritual principles of tazkiyat al-nafs through classical poetry

• Detailed explanation of the servant's absolute neediness and iftiqār before Allah

• Understanding that there is no protector, intercessor, or helper besides Him

• The theological implications of relying solely on Allah rather than creation

• Line-by-line comprehension of the poem's vocabulary and deeper meanings

An enriching study for students of knowledge wishing to soften their hearts and deepen their understanding of divine reliance.
