A path laid out in stages

The Alimiyyah programme on Madinah College Portal is a structured course that allows students to follow a methodology of seeking knowledge in stages, as laid out and traversed by the scholars. A student who studies the Alimiyyah programme is on a path to learning and understanding the religion from the ‘Ulema, the scholars, who are the inheritors of the prophets.

  • Study the texts themselvesClassical and contemporary texts in each of the main Islamic sciences, worked through line by line rather than summarised.
  • Start with the beginner textsLevels run in order. You begin with the foundational matn in each science before moving on to the intermediate and advanced texts.
  • Review on a regular basisRevisiting what you have already covered is part of the method, not an extra — every lesson stays available to rewatch, with your notes attached.
  • Sit an exam after each courseRequest an online exam once you finish a course. Papers are marked manually and a certificate follows. A £50.00 exam fee applies per course.

Who this course is for

This course is for anyone who wants to study Islam seriously, without putting their life on hold. You don’t need prior qualifications or experience — just the willingness to commit and learn.

Working professionals study around their 9-to-5. University students fit it alongside their degree. International students log in from anywhere in the world. The lessons are pre-recorded, so your schedule doesn’t matter. Your consistency does.

Learn full time or part time, during weekends or weekdays — in London, the USA, India, Melbourne and beyond. Whether you’re a beginner or someone who has attended scattered classes over the years, this programme meets you where you are.

What qualifications do students receive?

Students receive a certificate for each course they complete and pass. To earn one, you request to sit an online exam after finishing the course. Your paper is marked manually and results are sent to you by email.

This isn’t a tick-box exercise. The exams test whether you have actually understood the material, not just memorised it — that is what gives the certificate its weight.

Can women take this course?

Yes. Women can take this course, and it is encouraged for more sisters to study it.

Seeking Islamic knowledge has never been exclusive to men. The Prophet’s (ﷺ) own wives were among the greatest teachers of the religion. Aisha (رضي الله عنها) alone narrated over 2,000 hadiths, and companions would seek her out for rulings on Fiqh, inheritance and worship.

That tradition hasn’t changed. Women have always been students and scholars of Islam, and this programme carries that forward. The pre-recorded format also means you learn on your own time, fitting study around family, work or other responsibilities.
