Tajweed for Beginners is a fundamental course for every Muslim aiming to perfect their recitation of the Qur’an, the perfect Book and direct speech of Allah. Understanding the rules of Tajweed and the proper pronunciation of the Qur’an is essential for every believer to ensure that the recitation is done correctly and in accordance with the traditions of the Prophet ﷺ.
This course covers the foundational principles of Tajweed, including rules related to Noon Saakin and Tanween, Meem Saakin and the articulation points of letters, among others. These core aspects are crucial for reciting the Qur’an accurately and beautifully.
You’ll immediately notice the difference in your Arabic pronunciation and within 1 – 2 weeks of practice, the difference will be night and day.
Who is this course for?
People looking to recite the Quran better
You recite the Quran but know your pronunciation needs work. Maybe you learned to read Arabic quickly without focusing on proper articulation. This course gives you the Tajweed foundation you missed.
New Muslims
You’re learning to read Arabic and want to do it right from the start. We explain rules clearly, assuming no background knowledge. You’ll build proper habits from day one instead of having to correct mistakes later.
Adults and young teens
Age doesn’t matter for learning Tajweed. Whether you’re a parent wanting to recite properly for your children or a teenager preparing for Islamic studies, these rules apply to everyone equally.
Busy muslims
You have 15-20 minutes a few times per week. That’s enough. We designed lessons that fit into real schedules. Before Fajr, during lunch breaks or after the kids are in bed.
Students will learn:
- The rules of Noon Saakin and Tanween and how to pronounce them correctly.
- The rules for Meem Saakin and its correct articulation.
- The articulation points of Arabic letters and how they affect the clarity of recitation.
- The basic foundation of Tajweed and its importance in the recitation of the Qur’an.

Your Instructor
Shaykh Sharif Zain Ali
Shaykh Sharif memorised the entire Qur’an at age 15. He holds a BA in Shari’ah from Mogadishu University and earned his Ijazah in Hafs ‘an ‘Asim from Sheikh Shoieb in the UK.
In 2018, he completed his Ijazah in the Ten Minor Qira’at, mastering multiple authentic recitation styles. He’s led Tarawih prayers for over 15 years in South London and currently serves as Imam at Ibn Taymiyyah Masjid (Brixton) and head of the Qur’an Department at Madinah College.
How is Your Teaching Style Different From Other Tajweed Courses?
We focus on building muscle memory through repetition rather than overwhelming you with theory first. You learn by doing, not by memorising complex charts and rules.
Most Tajweed courses dump all the rules on you at once. Students get lost in technical terms like “Ghunnah” and “Ikhfa” before they can even pronounce basic letters correctly. That’s backwards.
We start with your mouth. You’ll spend time getting comfortable with each sound. No cramming 20 rules into one session.
Why Learn Tajweed?
Tajweed ensures you recite the Qur’an as it was revealed to Prophet Muhammad ï·º. Every letter has a specific sound and every rule has a purpose, changing them changes the meaning of Allah’s words.
The Qur’an isn’t just any book. When you recite it incorrectly, you risk altering the divine message. Tajweed helps preserve the purity of what Allah revealed over 1400 years ago.
Learning proper Tajweed brings you closer to how the Companions (may Allah be pleased with them) heard these verses. You’re connecting with an unbroken chain of correct recitation.
- Gain confidence in reciting aloud – No more hesitation during prayers or family gatherings. You’ll know your pronunciation is correct.
- Correct common mistakes – Stop worrying about whether you’re saying “Rahman” or “Rahma” correctly. You’ll know the difference.
Build a lifelong connection with the Qur’an – When you can recite beautifully, you’ll want to recite more. The words will flow naturally instead of feeling forced.
What You’ll Achieve by the End of this Course
By completion, you’ll recite Surahs with proper Tajweed rules and apply fundamental principles like Noon Saakin and Tanween correctly. Your daily prayers will sound clearer and more confident.
- Recite Surahs with correct Tajweed rules – Start with Al-Fatiha and work up to longer Surahs like Al-Baqarah’s opening verses.
- Recognise and apply rules of Noon Saakin and Tanween – You’ll automatically know when to use them without thinking about it.
- Improve fluency and clarity in daily prayers – Your Salah will flow smoothly. No more stumbling over familiar verses or rushing through unclear pronunciation.
- Identify your own mistakes – You’ll hear when something sounds wrong and know how to fix it. This skill keeps you improving long after the course.
Build confidence for group recitation – Whether it’s leading family prayers or participating in community events, you’ll recite without hesitation.
