The Book of Sawm from the Risalah is a foundational text in Islamic jurisprudence, focusing on the rules and principles of fasting in Islam. This section from the Risalah by Ibn Abi Zayd al-Qayrawani is a key resource for anyone seeking a deep understanding of fasting as an act of worship and its significance in Islam.

The verse from the Qur’an, “O believers! Fasting is prescribed for you as it was for those before you so perhaps you will become mindful of Allah” (Surah Al-Baqarah, 2:183), introduces the importance of fasting and the spiritual benefits it offers in helping Muslims attain taqwa (God-consciousness).
